REY ONE

Rey entered the world of graffiti in 1989 in Geneva through hip hop culture. He starts with wild tagging in the street and then gets initiated to colorful fresco. In 1990, with the help of three other artists, he created the EDK (karton spirit) collective. From the beginning of the adventure the EDK impose themselves by their calligraphic and foundation style, directly inspired by the New York and Parisian school. In 1991, Rey flies to the USA to continue his studies in art school. This trip takes a decisive turn in his career as a writer (graffiti artist). It is during this period that he meets many American artists, some of whom will join the EDK collective. From 1991 to 1995, Rey lives in Seattle where he paints an average of 2 to 3 frescos per week. In 1995, Rey is back in Switzerland until 1997, where he goes back to live in New York, in the Bronx, until 2002. He finally returned to Switzerland to pursue his career. During these ten years in the USA, Rey experienced hip hop and graffiti writing in an intense way, rubbing shoulders with various American hip hop legends and activists. Rey is a lettering specialist. It is the typographic side of the New York graffiti school that motivates him. He has painted more than a thousand murals throughout the world and on all supports. After more than 24 years of non-stop "underground" graffiti in the street, Rey now exhibits in galleries, while preserving his authentic side of pure graffiti.
